This is the first time I've written a poem about our experience.
We just had to get to the top. How hard could it be, trekking in the snow we thought.
With every step upwards, towards the top we aspire,
but as the air got thinner, it really became hard to respire.
Some stopped, too tired to move any further,
And some kept going, fueled by the fire within, in this cold weather.
And then we saw it, the flags put at the bend,
Tunganath temple it was, at the very end.
We rushed upwards, happy to finally have seen the end,
And then the guide told us, "There is another peak above", my friend.
We saw it alright, 'Chandrasheela' peak gleaming in the sunlight.
And then he told us to follow him, those who still could,
the others were to wait at Tunganath, and take rest as they could.
We few then followed him, on his led path, but the path here wasn't easy, not like the one for Tunganath.
Now with every step we ran out of breath,
Taking breaks we kept climbing, expecting the view to get better,
We ate the snow around, as we ran out of water.
Out of breath, tired and exhausted... We didn't know how long we could have lasted... Almost wanting to give up, we looked up. "Just a little more" we screamed and again stood up.
And then we applauded for ourselves, as we came towards the end,
And then we saw a view that we couldn't comprehend.
Snow clad peaks and mountains and valleys, shady blue mountains and the sun shining over, an all around view.
A moment which could only be seen by our eyes and captured in our hearts, not by phones or cameras.
And then we stood, staring at the nature's art, thinking we would be fools, if we had missed that part.
