Check out this different kind of 🦁 lion 🦁 “dance” by domino artist Lily Hevesh ( ). This is made up of over 8,000 dominos and is her largest domino field to date.⁣⁣“Every year until I was 6, my family would go to a big function hall near Boston to celebrate the Lunar New Year with other families who had adopted children from China. Even though I may not have fully understood what the celebration was at the time, I look back on this memory with joy.⁣⁣As a Chinese-born adoptee who grew up in the USA, celebrating the Lunar New Year has certainly been a learning experience. Celebrating with friends, family, adoptees and other Asian Americans has helped me connect with Chinese customs in the most supportive way. I am excited to once again honor this holiday.”⁣⁣✨❤️ Happy Lunar New Year! ❤️ ✨⁣⁣Reel by ⁣Music by

✨❤️ Happy Lunar New Year! ❤️ ✨⁣⁣Moon-mi You ( ) uses her home cafe of drinks and desserts as a ritual to treat herself. This #LunarNewYear, she’s making a dessert called a “dried persimmon jar (곶감단지).”⁣⁣“When I was young, dried persimmons were always filled in my house’s freezer when New Year’s Day approached. In Korea, they’re one of the things that we prepare for the ancestral rites table.”⁣⁣“I lived in the countryside with my grandparents, so on New Year’s Day, not only my house, but also the whole neighborhood was noisy with family members visiting my grandparents. It was a quiet rural village, so I liked this strange boisterous atmosphere, and I liked the noisy atmosphere of gathering with my cousins, talking and playing Yut Nori (a traditional Korean board game).”⁣⁣Video by

“The rise in anti-Asian hate crimes have cast a shadow of fear over our community but we are speaking up now,” says Amanda Nguyen ( ). She’s a civil rights activist, 2019 Nobel Peace Prize nominee and founder of Rise ( ).⁣⁣“There is a long tradition of people taking their living truths and channeling it into justice. I join that tradition by penning my own civil rights into existence and helping others pen theirs too.”⁣⁣Given the rise of attacks against the Asian community since the start of COVID-19, Amanda is sharing what all of us can do to stand up in this moment. “Silence erases our humanity. Elevate Asian stories. Learn our history. Speak us into the consciousness of the world.”⁣⁣Reel by

“With my work what I hope to convey is that you can have fun and experiment,” says nail artist Natalie Pavloski ( ). ⁣❤️💕💜⁣⁣“Being creative means so many things, you don’t have to solely focus on one thing and have it define you.⁣⁣Open yourself up to the possibilities and trust the process — you can learn so much about yourself that way. It wasn’t intentional that hearts were recurring in my work but when I started painting them, it inspired me to do more.”⁣⁣My primary focus has always been nail art, and playing around with makeup has been a fun and relatively new endeavor. Combining the two was experimental and is a really calming creative outlet.” ⁣⁣ #ThisWeekOnInstagram⁣⁣Photos by

“I try to make big, bold statements in visual confusion and uncertainty, offset with colorful, sometimes friendly-looking forms,” says motion designer and 3D artist Ben Hughes ( ).⁣⁣Ben’s 3D renderings place oversized forms — including hearts, spheres and even giant creatures — into urban environments, reshaping reality in unexpected and surprising ways.⁣⁣“The main theme in my work is around parallel realities and messing with juxtaposition, scale and physics. I’m fascinated by the quantum world. I’m equally fascinated by the character and stories contained in tower blocks and brutalist architecture. The two things together are such a fun contrast to work with.⁣⁣I think I’m trying to create light from darkness. Ordinarily, when one thinks about parallel worlds or realities, it can quickly become dystopian, but I don’t think it needs to be that way.” 💜⁣⁣ #ThisWeekOnInstagram⁣⁣Video by

Artist Polina Osipova ( ) creates embroidery and jewelry inspired by folklore and symbols from her indigenous Turkic ancestry.⁣⁣“My art is an attempt to remember my childhood and to honor the Chuvash culture that I find mesmerizing,” says 22-year-old Polina, who’s from Cheboksary, the capital of the Chuvashia region of Russia.⁣⁣“To be born in a traditional Chuvash family means to be surrounded by arts and crafts on an everyday basis. As I learn more about our culture and traditions, I feel a deeper bond with my predecessors. Almost all of my recent projects are related to our people. I want them to be remembered. I am lucky to be able to talk to my grandmothers, hear the bedtime stories and superstitions they told me about when I was a child. From these experiences, ideas emerge.⁣⁣The heart symbol is widely used in our traditional embroidery and represents loyalty, unity, love and the Chuvash people themselves.”⁣⁣ #ThisWeekOnInstagram⁣⁣Video by
